Illinois Readers’ Choice Book Awards 

Each book award list includes 20 nominees of both fiction and non-fiction titles that students in grades K-12 will read throughout the year and then vote for a winner. Aurora Public Library District is a location for children and teens to vote for their favorite title within their grade bracket, both online and in-person!  

The Rebecca Caudill Young Readers’ Book Award (for grades 4-8) 

This award was created in 1988 to honor Rebecca Caudill, an author and resident of Urbana, Illinois for over 50 years. The titles on this list are chosen by teachers and librarians for children in grades 4-8. 
Voting requirements: 

  • Must be in grades 4-8 (or homeschool equivalent) and live in Illinois. 
  • Must have read or listened to at least 3 Caudill nominees to be eligible to vote. 


Lincoln Award: Illinois Teen Readers’ Choice Award (for grades 9-12) 

The Lincoln award, named after President Abraham Lincoln, was created in 2005 to “encourage teens to read for pleasure and to become lifelong readers.” The titles on this list are chosen by teachers and librarians for teens in grades 9-12.  

Voting requirements: 

  • Student must be in grades 9-12 and live in Illinois. 
  • Student must have read or listened to at least 4 Lincoln nominees to be eligible to vote.
