Makerspace

Appointments

The Aurora Public Library District is open for Makerspace Appointments. Customers can call or visit our website to make an appointment to use the Makerspace at the library. For the safety of our customers and staff, appointments are limited to one hour per day.

  1. Make an appointment online or by calling 630-264-4117. Appointments must be made no later than a day in advance—same-day appointments are not allowed.

  2. At the time of your scheduled appointment, enter the library at the designated entrance.

  3. Please use the Makerspace for essential work and limit any personal or recreational use. One 60 minute session is allowed per day. No time extensions will be given.

Machines

3D Printing

The Makerspace has two different models of 3D printer. The three Prusa open-bed filament

 printers can print in PLA in a variety of colors. PLA is a safe, high-quality biodegradable plastic filament. The Formlabs 2 and Anycubic Mono Photon 6K print in UV-curable resin that results in highly detailed finished products!

Cutting Machines


The Brother ScanNCut SDX 125E and Cricut Explore Air 2 can be used to cut designs out of a variety of materials. Create a design with the Cricut Design Space,then cut on

 cardstock or other materials up to 2

 millimeters thick. The Brother ScanNCut

 scans and traces your designs and precisely cuts them out. 

The ScanNCut can cut material up to 3 millimeters thick. 

Heat Press

The Makerspace heat press can transfer your designs to fabric, hats, and mugs! Single-color heat-transfer vinyl cut on the Roland GS-24 or Cricut Explore Air 2 can be used, as can full-color designs printed using our sublimation printer. Make promotional materials for your business, or creative goodies for your family and friends! 

Laser Cutting/Engraving

The Makerspace has two laser cutters available for customer use: the Epilog Mini Helix and the Glowforge. Our laser cutters can cut and engrave a variety of materials, including wood, acrylic, leather, cardboard, and more! Materials for laser cutting, including specialty items such as cutting boards, keychains, and coasters, are available for purchase.     

Plotter Printer

The HP can print posters up to three feet wide on a variety of materials, including glossy, heavyweight, adhesive, and outdoor paper. Grommets are available for certain materials.

Sublimation Printer 

The sublimation printer can print full-color designs created using the Makerspace’s creative software onto fabric, plastic, or metal sublimation blanks.  

Vinyl Cutter

The Roland GS-24 can cut vinyl decals up to two feet wide in an assortment of colors. Oracal 651 permanent outdoor adhesive vinyl is available for purchase in the Makerspace and can be used on windows, vehicles and more. The Makerspace also has a supply of Siser Easyweed Vinyl which can be used with our Heat Press to create your very own T-shirts!

  • Corel Suite 2022 – Drawing and painting software 
  • Adobe Photoshop – Adobe’s painting program that can edit photos, create graphics and more.  
  • Adobe Illustrator – Adobe’s drawing program that allows you to work with vectors 
  • Adobe Lightroom- Adobe’s photo management software. 
  • Adobe InDesign- Adobe’s layout software allowing you to create flyers, menus and brochures. 
  • Adobe Acrobat Pro – Adobe’s PDF editor 
  • Cricut Design Space – This software allows you to access the Cricut and cut a variety of materials. 
  • Silhouette Studio - This software allows you to access the Silhouette cutter and cut a variety of materials. 
  • Cura Slicer- This 3D slicer software lets you edit files to work with the Prusa 3D printers. 
  • Brother Canvas Workspace - This software allows you to access the Brother ScanNCut and cut a variety of materials. 
  • Lychee Slicer for Anycubic – This 3D slicer is for slicing files for our Anycubic resin printer. 
  • Formlabs Slicer- This 3D slicer is for slicing files for our formlabs resin printer. 

FAQ

Where is the Makerspace located?

At the Santori Library, located on the first floor in front of the Children's department.

Can I use the Makerspace any time I want?

No, appointments are required to guarantee space use. 

How long is a Makerspace appointment?

One 60 minute session will be allowed per day.

How many sessions can I have in a day?

All customers are currently limited to one appointment per day.

How old do I have to be to schedule an appointment?

Customers over the age of 12 are allowed to use the Makerspace at this time.

Can I use the Makerspace without a library card?

Yes. 

What does it cost to use the Makerspace? 

There is no cost to use the Makerspace machines. Materials for all machines are sold in the Makerspace at cost. Customers are required to use the provided materials for the plotter printer, 3D printers and vinyl cutter. 

Can you bring in your own materials? 

Yes! You are welcome to bring in your own materials for use with our cutting machines. Please note that all materials will need to be reviewed by Makerspace staff to ensure that they are safe to use. It is recommended that you bring in a receipt showing where you purchased the material and what its intended use is.
