Library Cards

Ready to sign up for a library card? Great! You can apply in person at any location, or you can apply online and receive your new account information by email. Review the card types listed here, then click “APPLY NOW” to get started.

Aurora Residents

If you live in the City of Aurora, fill out the online form to sign up. We'll email your new card information within the hour. If you've moved recently, we may ask to see a current photo ID or proof of residency before approving your application.

Non-Residents

Live outside the city limits?

We have additional membership options including:

  • Non-Resident Cards - Individuals and families who live outside Aurora city limits and do not pay taxes to another library may purchase a 1-year non-resident card for $252.66. Check your address here to see if you're in our non-resident service area.

  • Kids age 17 or younger who live outside City of Aurora limits but attend school in Aurora may qualify for a FREE library card under the State of Illinois Cards for Kids Act. 

  • If you live in another town or city in Illinois and have a library card at your home library, you are welcome to register as a reciprocal borrower for FREE!  Stop by any one of our locations in person with your local library card and a current photo ID to sign up. Reciprocal borrowers have additional limits and exclusions.

Light of Learning Scholarship Cards 

The Aurora Public Library District Foundation offers a limited number of scholarships for qualifying households. The scholarship covers all but $25 of the cost of a non-resident card. In order to be eligible, applicants must meet the following criteria: 

  • Age 18 or older 
  • Live outside City of Aurora limits, in an area not served by another library. View information here.
  • Participate in one of the following programs: 
    • Federal assistance such as SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) or WIC (Women, Infants and Children) 
    • Free or reduced lunches at school 
    • Illinois Link Card 
    • Township General Assistance 
       

Teachers

Teachers who work at a school in the City of Aurora can sign up for a one-year teacher card. Teachers have full access to the library’s collections including online resources, and can also request special services like classroom loans, bookmobile visits, librarian visits, and library tours. 

Businesses and Organizations

If you own a business or run an organization in Aurora, we have a card for you too. Start the registration process by filling out a brief online application, and we’ll contact you to complete the process.
