This week, the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. inspires us to kick off our Civic Education Series with a panel on our County Boards and how they actually impact your life! Please register!
Panelists include Kane County Board Members Mavis Bates and Myrna Molina alongside Kendall County Board members Robyn Vickers and Amy Cesich.
In addition to her work on the Kane County Board, Mavis Bates also serves as the Chair of the Valley of the Fox Group of Sierra Club in Kane and Kendall Counties and is the founder and chair of the Aurora GreenFest, an annual eco-fest that attracts thousands of visitors each year to learn more about green living.
Myrna Molina was appointed to the 1st District seat in 2006 marking the first time a Latina served on the Kane County board. In 2010, Myrna won her first election to the Kane County board where she has represented Aurora’s most historic areas, including downtown, a portion of the west side and mostly east side district. She is the proud daughter of Mexican immigrants and a 25 year resident of Aurora's east side.
Robyn Vickers was elected to the Kendall County Board in 2018, prior to which she was a parent educator and served on the Board of the local NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness.) Additionally, Robyn is a charter member of the Kiwanis of Oswego. In March, Robyn started the non-profit Community Cares to help families during the pandemic.
Amy Cesich has served on the Kendall County Board in her current term since 2018. In addition to serving on her local HOA Board prior to entering the political sphere, Amy has been a member of the Yorkville Parks and Recreation Board for 10 years, currently serving as the President. In 2017, Amy became a Illinois Certified Domestic Violence Professional, and has been volunteering with Mutual Ground, a women’s domestic violence and sexual assault shelter in Kane county.
This series is co-sponsored by the League of Women Voters Aurora Area.
